"Police group: Detective who fatally shot mentally ill teen acted justly"

A 18 year old schizophrenic boy, Keith, was shot and killed in his home today. He has a mental illness and police came to help get him to treatment. Once another police came, order the other two to tase him and he then shoots him once in the heart, killing him in his own home.

This reminds me of the book To kill a Mockingbird because Tom was killed when he was innocent and he did nothing wrong to be killed. The Mockingbird represented someone who is weaker than you, and this reminded me of Kieth. You shouldn't kill someone who is schizophrenic and couldn't help he freaked out.

This is not right! Kieth should not have been killed in his own home because he had schizophrenia and started to freak out. His step father called for just one police officer to come out and help calm him down. Then another one can and order two police to tase him and then he shot him once in the chest at his house.

The central idea of the passage is Kieth's death. He was a 18 year old schizophrenic boy who was killed in his house by a police officer. "They had the situation under control" stated Mark Ryan Wilsey. But yet, he was still shot and killed on that dreadful day.

  1. I was really amazed at this article, also I like how you compared the story to the book "To Kill A Mockingbird." I really can't believe the innocent little boy was killed due to his mental illness. The only thing I would change is the punctuation and a couple spelling errors. What was your reaction to this article? What would you do if you had a mentally ill son and you needed help so you call reinforcement and they kill him on the spot?

  2. Kaley I agree 100% that Keith should not have been shot and killed. The reason being if the officers knew he was schizophrenic then they should have known what to expect, and how to handle the situation. There were a couple of grammatical errors, you started off " A 18 year old boy...", I would recommend using "An" instead of "A". The third sentence " Once another police came, order the other two to tase him and he then shoots him once in the heart, killing him in his own home." I would word that sentence like this
"Another police came to Keith's home, he ordered the other officers to tase Keith. Keith retaliated, and the officers reacted back by shooting him in the heart killing him." I like the comparison you used between this story and The Mocking Bird, that was very creative and interesting that you related this story to another story.
