Police: Minnesota teen planned school massacre

Ford, Dana, and Carma Hassan. "Police: Minnesota Teen Planned School Massacre." CNN. Cable News Network, 01 Jan. 1970. Photo. 02 May 2014.

17 year of John David LaDue had planned to kill his family, start a fire, bomb his school, kill the resource officer, and then shoot the students in his class. The only reason he was stopped was because someone noticed him doing something that seemed odd, and called the police. The teen is now in jail and behind bars.

This relates to me because just think if someone at our school was to plan something this crazy? We would all be dead. It makes you wonder and think why would he want to do this?

When CNN News spoke with his mother she stated "I'd rather not (provide a statement) at this time. Our family is dealing with a lot of grief. I appreciate your concern". This proves how she doesn't really know how to react to this. Her own son was going to kill her and her family and many people in the community.

Current Event #6

Texas man dies after falling off Grand Canyon rim

By: Ed Payne

John N. Anderson from Grapevine was visiting the Grand Canyon with his  family, Saturday morning when he fell about 350 feet. He wasn't trying to get a cool picture or anything, he had just fell said his sister-in-law. The park rangers was not able to resuscitate him.

This is a sad but crazy accident. How does someone just fall off the Grand Canyon. I have a feeling someone or something pushed him off. It affects me because if I was ever to go to the Grand Canyon I would be scared to go near the end.

  • What is the central idea of the passage and how is it developed and refined throughout the selection? Use evidence from the selection to support your answer.

-The central idea of the passage is to talk about an event that happened last week. A man fell off a very important landmark while touring it with his family. No one should have to see, specifically if it was his own family.

Brooklyn Nets Considering Signing Jason Collins:

WINDREM, ROBERT. "Brooklyn Nets Considering Signing Jason Collins: Sources."NBC News. N.p., 20 Feb. 2014. Photogragh. 24 Feb. 2014.
Jason Collins was the first NBA player to come out as openly gay. After this event, he could not find another team to accept him. Finally his day has came! He signed a "10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets and, playing for 12 minutes and pulling down a couple of rebounds, helped them to a win against the Los Angeles Lakers."
This event applies to a book I read for my 10th grade English project. I read a book about people being gay and what they had to go through. I read the book,Am I blue? Coming out from the Silence. The book talks about people finding out if they are homosexual and the struggles they went through. Most of the people in the book was teenagers. It was a few stories all in one.
This makes me very upset. People should not be kicked out of the NBA or any sport because of their sexuality. This affects me, because I have family and friends, and I, myself am a homosexual. Bulling is wrong period. Especially because of their sexuality, race, age, gender. All of it is wrong and it should not happen, period!
What is the central idea of the passage and how is it developed and refined throughout the selection? Use evidence from the selection to support your answer.
-The central idea of this passage to try to show the world that being openly gay is okay. The Brooklyn Nets gave him a chance and he helped them win against a very big basketball team. Just people you decided to tell people things about your life, you shouldn't be judged and bullied because of it.

Flush of a different kind lands poker player in jail

42 year old Christian Lusardi was arrested for flushing $2.7 million dollars down the toilet. He made 2.7 million dollars worth of fake poker chips for the Winter Poker Opens "Big Stack, No Limit Hold 'Em." He then goes to his hotel, and tries to flush them, clogging the drains.

This reminds me of the talks we have with Ms. Walker about trying to budge your money. But you should not go try to make fake money. It will only put you in jail. Plus, if you just flush it, it would not get rid of the fake money for good, someone else will just find it one day.

This guy is stupid. First off, why would you make fake poker chips? They will be able to tell if they are real or not. Also, why try flushing 2.7 million dollars worth of them down the toilet, cause the drains of the hotel to back fire. Some people in this world needs more common senses.

What is the impact of using quotes?
The impact of using quotes help show what happened during the arrest of Mr. Lusardi. ""This was a very unusual occurrence. It's the first time in Borgata's 10 years that anything like this has happened," Joe Lupo, senior vice president of operations at Borgata, told CNN" It shows how CNN news went out to talk to people about what happened to get the inside story about this event.

"Police group: Detective who fatally shot mentally ill teen acted justly"

A 18 year old schizophrenic boy, Keith, was shot and killed in his home today. He has a mental illness and police came to help get him to treatment. Once another police came, order the other two to tase him and he then shoots him once in the heart, killing him in his own home.

This reminds me of the book To kill a Mockingbird because Tom was killed when he was innocent and he did nothing wrong to be killed. The Mockingbird represented someone who is weaker than you, and this reminded me of Kieth. You shouldn't kill someone who is schizophrenic and couldn't help he freaked out.

This is not right! Kieth should not have been killed in his own home because he had schizophrenia and started to freak out. His step father called for just one police officer to come out and help calm him down. Then another one can and order two police to tase him and then he shot him once in the chest at his house.

The central idea of the passage is Kieth's death. He was a 18 year old schizophrenic boy who was killed in his house by a police officer. "They had the situation under control" stated Mark Ryan Wilsey. But yet, he was still shot and killed on that dreadful day.
